This is why the NRA should have no political sway in Washington   Leave a comment

By now most of you read the press statement the NRA put out in response to both the Shooting in Newtown that left 20 1st and 2nd grade children dead and the push for legistration for new Gun Control Laws.

For those who haven’t, the jist of it is they say violent Video Games are the reason the mass shooting happened. Furthermore, they want teachers to be armed as a deterrent against future violence.

First of all, read this blog post for my answer in advance regarding violent video games. I have also reblogged this blog post by Retro Viking because it relates to what is becoming a growing issue to many people. As an aside: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision) was mostly spared negative press when mass shootings happened worldwide during its lifecycle. Interestingly, both Black Ops games (both also by Activision) were featured as the “face” of violent video games. I just find that to be very interesting considering all three games were made by the same company and mass shootings have happened during all of their life cycles.

As for the other “point” raised by the NRA, teachers have too much on their plates to now have to worry about arming themselves at work. Well, that and it sends the wrong message to students. While I will agre all schools should be free of violence of this magnitude, arming teachers or even putting mercenaries in our schools just sends the wrong message. I have been saying this for the last 11 years: “When Americans respond in this way to mass murder we’re doing exactly what Al Qaeda said we’d do. Their propaganda machine has killed far more people than they themselves have. One thing you have to give The Foundation credit for is the fearmongering it can instill in others. The best reaction to fear is no reaction at all.”

The NRA lost all of its credability as a lobbyist with this press release. Anyone who takes this at face value and goes along with it has lost the ability to think for themselves and weigh all the facts. If politicians were looking for a good excuse to distance themselves from the NRA I’d say this more than qualifies. We need to send a united message loud and clear the NRA has no place in Washington. Leave figuring out how to deal with Gun Control to the professionals, not a for-profit club that has demonstrated for decades people are worth less than guns in their book.

What Happened to my You Tube Account   Leave a comment

I closed my You Tube Account myself.

I originally drafted this message on December 10 but decided to wait a bit before putting out a statement.

The reason I had to do it, not the fact that I did it is what bothers me more than anything. As I mentioned in two of my videos last month, I have multiple Internet Identities. The two I use the most are Aurabolt and Brendan2k5. The third I’m known by in a few circles is Victor Bravo. It is a select few who know me as Victor Bravo who have chosen to attack my main account on You Tube with trolling messages and mass-disliking every video I upload. It is obvious they subscribed to me on You Tube specifically for this reason.

After putting up with it for a month I’ve decided to remove myself from You Tube. The person(s) who forced me to do this only care about themselves. They only care about satisfying their egos even though I’ve made it clear I want nothing to do with them and they still came after me. There are some lines common sense dictates you just don’t cross. These people obviously do not care.

I will return to You Tube but it will not be anytime soon. I don’t want to broadcast exactly when I’m going to relaunch my You Tube Channel but it will return. I may or may not announce when it’s back up when I do it. I have all 60 of my videos on my desktop and all except the dated ones will be back. If the troll’s intention was to push me off You Tube they failed. I know how this works, hence why I decided to pull the plug abruptly. After a while they’ll lose interest and move on to someone else.

The only hardcore Internet Troll ever to earn my respect is Lance Davis, known as Poe on TPPC. If you want to know why, go to TPPC’s Forums and ask him =D

Update 12/15/2012

I have to admit I waas sorely tempted put out a video statement on You Tube regarding the Shooting in New Town but I wanted to prove to myself I could keep my word. No matter what I said, if I went back on my word I’d lose credability with my audience. I have posted two blogs already on the subject and have a few more in mind in the days ahead.

Update 1/25/2012

As of today my community problems have been resolved. This post has been edited to reflect this.

Aurabolt's Fan Fiction

A short time ago I set up the fifth and likely final blog of Serene Adventure on WordPress.

Introducing Aurabolt’s Fiction Press.

Something I’ve been forced to think about over the last two months is not everyone who writes would want to write Fan Fiction. I want to give those who prefer to write purely original stories their own platform. Given this blog hasn’t really gone into anything other than Fan Fiction, this also gives me the freedom to focus on just that here. Effective immediately I will also  cover my Serene Adventure Stories past, present and future on Aurabolt’s Fiction Press as well.

In fact, expect to see a massive mini site for all things from the Serene Adventure stories. Some of you may recall I was SUPPOSED to have done that on the main blog but I never got around to it. That’ll change soon enough.

My thoughts on the shooting in Newtown, Connecticuit   Leave a comment

It’s a tragedy that should never again be repeated.

Speaking as someone who works with the same age of students I couldn’t help but think “what if that had been my school?” I can’t even begin to imagine what the families of the deceased must be going through and will be go through for the rest of their lives. No parent should be made to feel and wonder “Will this be the last time I see my son or daughter?” I’m not just saying this because it is happened in America. It shouldn’t be allowed to happen ANYWHERE in the world.

I’m sure families, teachers and school communities worldwide will be talking about how to talk about this in the week before the Holiday Break as well as beyond. Keep the people of Newtown in your thoughts and prayers. They’re gonna need it.
